General Description / Primary Purpose
This position reports to the Assistant Director of Student Financial Aid. Financial Aid Specialist is responsible for auditing, evaluating, and monitoring students’ financial aid records to determine eligibility for awarding financial aid programs.
Essential Duties

Job Function
Performs federal/state mandated audit of parent/student personal financial data. Evaluates students’ financial aid files against supporting documents, i.e. parents and student taxable income from federal tax forms, un-taxable income, family household size, number in college, and assets of the family. Processes in-house corrections for the Federal Student Aid Report (includes monitoring problems with the correction process and communicating them to the supervisor.) Determines eligibility for awarding financial aid programs (Federal, State, and Institutional) and takes care of over-awards. Performs work in a variety of areas within the ES Processing/Financial Aid unit (Loans, Verification, Scholarships or Accounting, etc.) including a variety of Financial Aid reports and other duties as assigned. Responsible for interpreting rules and regulations governing all state and federal financial aid programs as established by audit reports, regulatory changes in Title IV programs and Federal Registers.

Marginal Functions
Participates in cross training activities within the Enrollment Services Processing office and is assigned to Financial Aid Coordinator. The employee learns the assigned coordinator’s job function and serves as a backup. Participates in activities that involve testing Banner. Participates in yearly training opportunities and may be asked to train new employees. Responsible for updating functional job description on a yearly basis. Other duties as assigned

Required Qualifications
A high school diploma and four years of experience directly related to the job functions. Directly related college coursework or vocational/technical training may substitute at an equivalent rate for the required experience.
