Project Engineer [New Zealand]

Downer is an industry leader in water, providing water services to a quarter of New Zealanders. We support our customers across the full asset lifecycle from the conceptual development of a project through design, construction, commissioning and whole-of-life support and optimisation.

We have had an opportunity for a Project Engineer to join our newly refreshed Engineering Services team. Currently this role is based at one of our major projects; the thermal dryer project at New Plymouth’s wastewater treatment plant.

The primary purpose of the role is to provide engineering support to major capital projects and or programmes of minor capital and renewal projects. Typically engineering support includes (but is not limited to) undertaking site investigations, setting out and surveying, coordinating and designing temporary works, developing detailed methodology statements, coordinating trade packages, procurement of materials, monitoring the programme against the baseline, responding to technical queries and ensuring quality controls are in place to ensure that work is completed to the required technical specifications and quality.

This role will require relocation from time to time to support Downer’s major projects. Therefore, please only apply for this role if you would be able to potentially relocate or travel for work when required.

Education and Experience

  • A minimum of 5 years work experience in the delivery of construction projects and or minor capital programmes and renewals.
  • A relevant tertiary qualification in engineering.
  • A clean and valid full driver’s licence.
  • Experienced in site investigations, temporary works, construction methodologies, pipelaying techniques, quality controls, testing and commissioning activities.
  • Experienced in delivering multiple disciplined projects.

  • Ability to apply sound engineering judgement based on engineering knowledge.
